The Big Lake City Council approved plans for two new downtown busineses when they met in regular session Wednesday evening.
A transfer of an on-sale and Sunday liquor permit was approved to Raymond McManus for SIG, LLC, who will be purchasing the present Tootsies bar and lounge Aug. 1.
McManus is agreeing to buy the establishment from Jerry and Janet McKernan, who have owned and operated it for several years.
McManus said he would be remodeling the establishment, to be called Tootsies Lakeside Pub, to provide more kitchen space and food offerings.
He has had 20 years experience in the liquor business, including ownership and management of the Shortstop in Coon Rapids.
The council also met with Jon Fahning, on behalf of Tom Opatz, who has submitted a development application including concept plan for a new Caribou Coffee.
The business would be located on a city-owned open lot at the southeastern corner of Hwy. 10 and Eagle Lake Road - next to IST.
The concept plan approval will lead to review of several permits and variances.
It was reported once the paperwork is completed, the Caribou will be up and running within nine weeks. The structure will be pre-fabricated and moved to the site. Access would be off Humboldt Drive, to the south.
The facility would have drive-up for coffee purchasers, with a lane stacking for 10 vehicles.
