TO THE EDITOR:
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Voters of Big Lake.
A school levy does not pass because of the work of a few, it passes because of the passion, heart, and desire of many.  Whether you gave hours of your time or talked to one or two neighbors, the ripple effect you created has made a difference.
While the grass may be greener on the other side, we thank you for fighting
to water the grass beneath your own feet. This campaign was run on truth and integrity.  No information was ever hidden or skewed.  The school was very transparent and hit the community in every way possible to get the information to the voters.
No one gave their time to the cause to receive any fanfare, but we do need to
give credit where credit is due.
Thank you to the district office, Supt. Steve Westerberg, Communi-cation Specialist Kayla Stai, Big Lake Fire Station, Big Lake School Board, HS Student Council members and students, and the countless volunteer parents and teachers.  You all gave your time to the mission and purpose we set out to accomplish.  Well done!
A special thank you to the teachers of Big Lake, who are in the trenches day
in and day out.  You give your heart and soul to our kids and we hope this will be the beginning of a new beginning where we break the glass ceiling of status quo.
We couldn’t stress enough that positive action creates positive results. If we want to know what’s happening in our schools it will require effort by each one of us.  It’s time we get out from behind our computer screens and attend School Board meetings, volunteer in a classroom or school organization, or have a conversation with teachers and the Administration.
Thank you, Big Lake voters for showing up and stepping up.  Let’s continue to keep our eye on the big picture.

TO THE EDITOR:
Each holiday season, the food shelf provides certain foods clients can select to make their holiday meal more fulfilling.
The resources that are available thru the two major Food Banks, Second Harvest and the Food Group has been significantly reduced and all the items that are on the list below are not available for us to order from them at this time.  This happens to be the nature of the food banks and one of the challenges we face in trying to find supplies that match the needs of our clients on a day to day basis.
We are asking for your help in obtaining the following items for our holiday food shelf:
Stuffing mix; Evaporated Milk; Canned Pumpkin; Apple Juice; Miniature Marshmallows; Boxed Sides of Rice or Noodles; Canned Fruits; Canned Vegetables; Canned Sweet Potatoes; Canned Green Beans; Cream of Mush-room Soup; Jell-O; Pudding; Assorted Pie Fillings and French Fried Onions.
The food shelf wishes to take this opportunity to thank Big Lake Legion Post #147, VFW Post #8731, Men's Auxiliary of Monticello and the Knights of Columbus from MOV Catholic Church for their kind and generous donations.

TO THE EDITOR:
With Christmas just around the corner, the start of the Community Toys for Tots campaign is getting underway again for the children of the Big Lake, Becker, Clearwater, Clear Lake and Monticello communities.
Applications to receive toys through the program can be picked up at city hall or the food shelf in any of these five towns. This includes Big Lake school district residents with an Elk River address.  Applications will be accepted through Dec. 8, 2015.  This year’s distribution date will be Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015.
As always our program is in need of volunteers.    Anyone interested in volunteering or donating toys or funds should contact Dr. Stacy at (763) 482-4447, or by e-mail @ communitytoysfortots@gmail.com.
