Full-time, yearlong service members help nonprofits, government agencies build lasting programs to alleviate poverty in Central Minnesota.
The Initiative Found-ation is seeking nonprofit and government agencies to host full-time, yearlong AmeriCorps VISTA members engaged in projects to fight poverty.
VISTA service members create a lasting impact by helping their host site serve low-income communities while building their capacity to build and sustain poverty-fighting programs. In partnership with the AmeriCorps VISTA program, the Initiative Foundation will place 12 full-time VISTA members in organizations serving Benton, Cass, Crow Wing, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd, Wadena or Wright Counties.
Eligible host sites include 501(c) nonprofit organizations, schools and local, state and tribal government agencies. All applicants must be involved in anti-poverty work.
Host site applications are due Feb. 3. Sites will be selected based on their ability to support and direct a VISTA member, the expected impact of the project and their alignment with the following 2016-2017 priority focus areas:
•Economic opportunity through financial literacy, employment or workforce development.
•Education
•Healthy futures through increased food or health care access
•Housing
•Military veterans and their families
By June, host sites will recruit, interview and select their own VISTA members from a pool of local and national candidates. Selected VISTA members start service in August and receive training, healthcare coverage and a monthly living allowance to supplement their service.
