Big Lake High School’s 2015 graduation rate ranks in the top 10 percent of Minnesota school districts with graduating classes of 100 or more students, according to data released by the Minnesota Department of Education this week.
Big Lake’s graduating class of 2015 posted a 97.3 percent graduation rate compared to the state average of 81.9 percent. Big Lake High School’s graduation rate has steadily increased year-over-year for the past three years—up 8.9 percent since 2012.
“This steady increase can be attributed to the hard work of our teachers and students,” said High School Principal Bob Dockendorf. “Also, our behavior philosophy, the Hornet Way, has curbed the number of behavior incidents over the past several years significantly decreasing the number of dropouts we have.”
Compared to other area high schools, Big Lake’s graduation rate took the highest ranking with Becker at 96.1 percent, Buffalo at 95.6 percent, Monticello at 94.9 percent, and Elk River at 93 percent.
