Aimee Schulz
The Sherburne County Agricultural Society awarded its inaugural Agriculture Scholarship to Aimee Schulz of Becker during the 2018 Sherburne County Fair. At least one scholarship is planned to give away to a qualified applicant during the Sherburne County Fair in the years to come.
“We are excited to be giving back to the community of youth that give or have given great support to the the fair”, said Velvet Longtin, SCAS Scholarship co-chair. The first recipient and her family have been a crucial part of the fair for years.
Aimee is entering her senior year at Iowa State University, double majoring in Agronomy and Genetics. A former Sherburne County 4-H member, Aimee participated in the Sherburne County Fair from Cloverbud through grade 13.
As a Cloverbud, Aimee took part in the Poultry Project, and was often featured in newspapers with one of her ducks. When she became old enough to join Horse Project, she began showing her horse, Bart,at the fair. From sixth grade on, she annually earned a trip to the 4-H state horse show where she competed in Pleasure Classes, Hippology, and Horse Judging.
When asked about her time in Sherburne County, she often reflects on the County Fair and how that was always the highlight of her summer. Those memories have been special to her these last two summers as she worked as an intern, unable to return for the fair. Aimee remained in Iowa working for Beck's Hybrids two years ago, and this year, she interned at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis, studying the root architecture in corn, maize and teosinte. Her future plans include a PHD and teaching at the university level.
