Each year, Sherburne County holds a tax forfeit sale of properties that are tax delinquent.
Some parcels are bought at the sale and go back on the tax rolls, while others remain for sale or get passed on until the sale the following year.
A report presented by the county auditor/treasurer’s department to the county board shows in 2018, tax forfeit sales totalled $290,241.49, of which the county’s share was 40% ($87.347.55).
Parks, trails and open spaces received 20% ($54,592.19). School districts (40%) received $87,347.53 and $57,954.22 was distributed to cities and townships depending on where the properties were located.
The City of Big Lake had the highest distribution of any jurisdiction with $18,301.49.
Livonia Twp. was next with $15,717.21, followed by Big Lake Twp. with $10,026.13.
Zimmerman was next with $2,773.16, Elk River with $2,630.17 and Palmer Twp. with $2,178.08.
No other jurisdiction received more than $2,000.
Another $14,280.45 covered special assessments in cities and townships.
Bridge Grant
The board approved a MN State Transportation Fund Grant Agreement through the Local Bridge Replacement Program (bridge bonds) between Sherburne County and MnDOT for the replacement of the bridge on Co. Rd. 3 over the Elk River in the amount of $427,347.00.
The total project cost is $1,254,829.30.
Other Business
In other action the board:
* Approved a Gambling Application for Exempt Permit for City of Big Lake Firefighters Relief Association to be used for a raffle Aug. 3 at the Big Lake Fire Dept.;
* Approved a Gambling Application to Conduct Excluded Bingo for Travelers Country Club on the Mississippi on 5/25/19, 6/29/19, 7/27/19, and 8/31/19;
* Accepted a $2,500 matching grant from the Initiative Foundation to research policy options to expand Freight Rail Grant opportunities statewide;
* Approved the donation of the dais from the county board room to Clear Lake Twp. to be used in their new town hall;
* Approved a Consumption and Display Permit for Deltone/Luth Gun Club in Haven Twp.;
* Ratified the year-end transfers from the general fund to cover deficits on county ditches totalling $21,548.10;
* Accepted a Successful Transition to Adulthood for Youth (STAY) award in the amount of $8,000 to help eligible youth who are or have been in out of home placement learn needed independent living skills;
* Approved a contract with Central Minnesota Council on Aging in the amount of $4,054 for the following programs: Information and Advocacy, Planning and Systems Development, Grant/Contracts, Technical
Assistance, Coordination, Education and Training, Program Development and Research;
* Approved a grant to Rivers of Hope in the amount of $15,652.00 for telephone crisis intervention; counseling or referral to appropriate professionals; information, orientation or training on domestic abuse issues; support groups and development of preventative strategies;
* Approved a grant agreement for Central Minnesota Sexual Assault Center in the amount of $5,500 to provide services, including 24-hour crisis line staffed by trained volunteers; advocacy and emotional support through medical, law enforcement and legal procedures; referrals to medical, legal and other professional services; support groups, resource information and community education;
* Approved a grant agreement with United Way 2-1-1 in the amount of $2471.00 to provide information and referral services.
